Movie Review – Avengers: Infinity War

15579_1520595243The big one has finally arrived. Avengers: Infinity War crashed onto cinema screens across the world this weekend, but is it any good?

This review will, of course, be spoiler-free, but either way I recommend going into this film knowing as little as possible in order to get the best experience. With that being said, let’s jump in.

If you didn’t already know, Infinity War is the culmination of 10 years (18 films) of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and it brings together characters from across the franchises including The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy.

So, let’s start with some cons (because every film has at least one con).

There are some partially dodgy CGI scenes. It is only characters picking up certain things but sometimes they can look a bit off. That being said, however, the whole film does really really well on the special effects and CGI overall with some of the big set-pieces featuring heavy CGI.

A second (and probably final) con is the character screen time. For how many characters that are in this movie, Marvel have done really well to give them all a decent amount of time on the big screen, however, some characters get less than others and they might even be the characters that you might want to see more of throughout…but like I said, overall, they do a very good job of keeping the film balanced.

Now onto the pros (of which there are quite a few).
Again, this is a non-spoiler review so I won’t go into any major details.

One of the best aspects of this film is the villain. Thanos. He has been teased since the first Avengers film back in 2012 and he does not disappoint when he finally rears his purple head. You really do feel that he could kill anyone and that he can’t be stopped, but thats all part of the fun.

Another pro for this film is once again the soundtrack. I’ve always been a fan of the scores in the MCU and, despite themes changing from film to film, I was very happy to hear the Avengers Theme return in full during this film and its inclusion only helps to enhance the scenes it’s in.

A final pro is the film overall, this film is one of Marvels best and the Russo brothers have, once again, created another masterpiece. The action sequences are intense and close. The emotional moments let you feel the pain the characters are going through and the big set-pieces really set the scope and scale for the film.

The characters also add to the film, the different dynamics between characters who have never met before really add a breathe of fresh air and even relationships from previous films, once again show how good they are.

Overall, if you’re a fan of the MCU, if you’re a fan of action films, I can guarantee you will enjoy this film. For me it’s the best film of the year so far, better than Black Panther that was released earlier in the year.

I cannot recommend Infinity War enough. Go out there and see it.

Avengers: Infinity War: 4.5/5
